SL500 freezing up - overheating?

2011-06-20, 13:52 PM

I am having issues with my Lenovo SL500 running XP freezing up occassionally.  It has

started recently and usually freezes up in the first 15 minutes of use and now I am having

Realtek Ethernet issues.  When I run CPUID Hardware I see the internal temps at 66c and they

drop to 55-58c after running the program for a few minutes.  Could it be high temps are

making my system flaky?  What are normal internal temps?

I run HWMonitor 1.17 - http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html and am curious what

others see as their temps - I get peaks of 70c and on the cores I vary from 55-67c.

Thanks!

Those sound somewhat high, but are okay.

Look in Task Manager for anything hogging CPU.

Also check your HDD's S.M.A.R.T. values; there could be bad sectors.

Peaked at 84c yesterday.  Now comes the warranty issue.  See a new thread I am creating.

84C is okay for a Core 2 Duo processor. It's high, but not enough to warrant throttling or freezing.
