My SL510 was supplied with a "slim" (I think 7 or 8mm) 250GB HD. I now want to upgrade to at least 1TB, but all the drives I can find are the more usual 9.5mm thickness.
I have taken the cover off and "offered up" an old 9.5 mm drive and it seems to fit nicely, but what I forgot to try at the time was whether the metal mounting device will fit with the thicker drive. I assume it will as it mounts on the same side of the drive.
Will it fit, and is there anything else to watch out for when I change the HD? I've read the recent threads about the same procedure in the SL410, so I assume it's the same.

Hey there Billaboard,
Looking over the PSRef for the SL510s, I see that they were shipped with a 9.55mm hard drive.. The SL510s start around page 49 in Adobe Reader, you can use your machine type and model number to find the exact specific spec sheet. Looking over the specs to what came with the machine, I imagine that any SATA 3.0Gb/s, 2.5'' wide, 9.5mm high HDD should work for you. I hope this helps.

Thanks. I ordered the 9.5 thickness drive and it fits the metal "caddy" and the space in the machine.
My specific model, 2847CSG, doesn't seem to appear on the list, and it seems strange that it was fitted with the slim drive.
I bought the cheapest 1TB drive that I could find, a Samsung, but it's working well and is even quieter than the original drive.
