Question

I have a  ThinkPad SL510 - Type is 28427FM.

I recently ran the Lenovo updates and installed that latest version of Access Connections ver 5.61.  Since then I have had a problem with my wireless either not starting on boot, or turning itself off every 5 minutes or so.

To restart WiFi I need to run Windows Troubleshooting. It tells me the wireless is turned off and ask if I want to turn it on, I hit yes and it turns it on and then 5 minutes later it turns off again.

The only way to clear the problem seems to be to re-boot the notebook several times and it seems to start correctly about 1 in 5 re-boots.

This problem seems to occur on my work network (Netgear WNR3500 v2) but have not noticed it being a problem on my home (Siemens) WAN.

I do not want to reinstall windows which seems not helping the issue at all.

Answer

You may want to try the two suggestions below.

Method A:

  • Press the Windows button which is in between the Ctrl and Alt keys at the same time as the X key
  • 'Windows Mobility Centre' will appear
  • Press "Turn Wireless On" far right at the top if it is not already turned on

Method B:

  • Go Start
  • All Programs
  • Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools
  • Double click Internet Connection
  • Go to Options tab
  • Uncheck the box that says "Allow thewireless LAN radio to be turned off when inactive"
  • Click OK.
  • Then try the wireless again
