Here's what I'd tried, as per instructions on About.com
entered user name Admin / password
I had also chosen to reset my password & I typed my own password, then confirmed it by retyping it.
It was after that, that my system froze up at this point during Startup:
WINDOWS IS STARTING UP
(whereupon the system remains frozen at that point.
I needed to remove the battery - not just the AC. Nothing else worked to shut the display.
I'm in a cold sweat not knowing what to do!
I'm now back on my tiny 12" laptop which is full of trojans, in order to type this.

Minni, welcome to the forum,
If you need to bypass the fingerprint you can do it by;
BIOS / POP Password; when asked for your fingerprint at power on press escape and then enter your supervisor / power on password.
Windows; hit Ctrl + Alt + Delete when asked for your fingerprint, enter your administrator user name and password
Hope this helps

Hi Andy - since i'm not a techie - can you please clarify?
believe me, when I was at the frozen screen, I tried CTRL-ALT-DEL but nothing happened.
Ditto when i tried the Blue IBM button.
Can you please explain step-by-step as follows:
(1) Press Power button
(2) As soon as _____ displays, then press ______
Then I'll print it out and follow your instructions exactly.

you might try the instructions on the link on this thread http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/R-and-L-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Windows-XP-in-R60-ThinkPad-always-restar...

not sure which instructions your referring to. All I saw was a link which he referred to at the last post on that thread, and that link was routed thru google.
The problem is, that because the password-freeze forced me onto this trojaned laptop, I can't get into any links which are connected with Google because my trojans disabled google/Gmail/YouTube.
Is there any direct solution for my problem which does not involve a link related to Google? BTW, I doubt anyone's as aware of google's stranglehold as I am, due to my malware. For example, when I tried posting a on gardenweb via this laptop, the same thing happened (since gardenweb's forum process was routed via google as well.

Hi, the past several days I had connection issues due to Verizon DSL lines, thus the delay.
I checked out your link, though the video doesn't work on this thinkpad.
Here's the thing:
my issue started when I had chosen the option to Reset the Windows password (to my mnemonic password).
After which it remained locked at:
WINDOWS IS STARTING UP
I suspect it's cuz it's now in conflict with the preset password which came with my thinkpad.
So my Q is this:
Would it be safe for me to try the following:
F8 (safe boot)
then choose: last known good configuration
OR - is the following preferable:
then choose: Start Windows normally??

OK, I resolved my issue to the extent that even the ridiculous Fingerprint+Admin screen has become dispensed with, and bootup goes directly to my desktop (as i want it to).
Here's what I did (more or less):
Each time screen became dark during bootup, I clicked F8.
Then chose Win-XP.
The first time around, it did not display the list which included "Last known good config."
But another time I tried it, the list finally displayed.
So I finally got to click "Last know good configuration"
Followed the System Restore routine (Start, programs, accessories, tools)
...chose the April 27th date to restore my system to - BUT THIS TURNED OUT TO BE FOR NOTHING
......whereupon it TRIED rebooting to the April 27th configuration
I then heard that same heart-sinking beep I'd been hearing these past days
2 Dialog Boxes as follows:
1st Dialog Box:
Logon to Windows
.... user-name: Admin ...... Password: @@@@@@@@
2nd Dialog Box:
The system could not log you on. Make sure your user name & domain are correct, then type your password again.
And then the stupid clickable ADMIN-chess-pieces icon displayed
....so I clicked it
Your computer cannot be restored to Wed. April 27. No changes have been made to your computer.
But then, upon clicking OK, the desktop displayed.
So I said - what the heck - I'll go to:
......once there, I chose "change password"
...........then typed the SAME password I had used during that fatal Reset Password
...VOILA! for some reason which I cannot fathom, I'm up & running
(cuz not only does it now boot up OK,
...but the icing-on-cake is that it now skips that nonsensical fingerprint-Admin. screen
