I'm consider swapping out my L540 1366x768 for a compatible 1920x1080 display. I'm pretty sure a TN panel will fit (I assume Lenovo don't make a different screen chassis based on screen type?) I'm just wondering if it's possible to replace the TN panel with an IPS one? I can see a few posts on the subject already but none I've found relating to the L540. Anyone managed this? Any issues? I'm very comfortable working on computers.

Thanks for the response Jonas..
I've found the parts list for the L540 here..
There are two FHD panels available, and from googling the FRUs it appears 04X4870 is the FHD IPS version and 04X4852 is the TN version. Going back to my original question though, I need to know if I can fit the FHD IPS panel in place of the TN panel I've already got. Connections and screw placements being the same and what not. There is rather a lot of contrary information out there, IPS panels can't replace TN panels, and not even being able to upgrade it to FHD. The FHD bit I don't believe but it's perfectly understandable if the TN an IPS connections are different.

I bought the 1366x768 version of Lenovo L540 and also bought a brand new IPS panel to switch .. I opened up the laptop only to find that I cannot replace the screen as it does not have the necessary hooks to do it (bummer).. Now I am thinking of buying a new L540 with the 1080p screen (customized) , can some one let me know if I will then be able to use the IPS screen on this new laptop then...
Please answer soon, I have quite some money at stake here...

I don't think you can. the TN and IPS panels are different technologies so if you buy a 1080p TN panel laptop, an IPS screen won't work. can you please give some more detail as to why you couldn't use the 108p panel in your 1366 laptop please

I checked and found that the screen should work as the one that is installed in my laptop is eDP port (1366) its a TN. I bought the best IPS with eDP port but the only drawback that I am having is that Lenovo L540 has 2 types of LCD assembly - a slim one and a normal one,, the slim one only supports the IPS hook up = mounting holes on the top and bottom slugs, whereas my laptop is having the older type mounting where the hinge is connected to the panel with two long straight metal strip on the sides... (double bummer) !!
Now I am totally lost.. I love this machine and dont want to sell it.. I dont know if I buy a new machine with 1080p display (customize from Lenovo Japan) will I get a slim type LCD panel or a older normal type.. I am so stuck right now..
Please someone who has done this upgrade, help me..
P.S. - If someone has bought the 1080p version, I request you to let me know how you found it was the slim one or the normal one..
