ThinkPad 1x1 11b/G/N Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter problems and upgrade

2015-09-03, 18:12 PM

Hi everyone,

I'm after some advice about what to do abut my laptop's wireless card.

I've got a ThinkPad L430, which is a couple of years old but I won in a raffle and have just started using from brand new.

The laptop came with Windows 8, and from the start had issues with the Wireless card (ThinkPad 1x1 11b/G/N Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter) randomly appearing and disappearing from Device Manager.

When adding some RAM I resecured the wireless card and that seemed to make it more reliable, but still the signal went in and out regularly.

I've since updated to Windows 10, and while the rest of the laptop works great, the wirless has become so unreliable that I have turned to using a USB WiFi dongle.

Now, while previously unused, my L430 is out of warranty to get this repaired - so I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations to replace the current wireless card with? I would prefer not to always have to fill a USB socket.

Thanks for any pointers!
