Thinkpad L412 Integrated Camera and USB Controller Not working

My Integrated Camera has disappeared from the device manager listing, and "USB not connected". Further, the USB Controller has an "Unknown Device" with no driver. None of my USB ports work beyond power. I cannot find any drivers or other way to resolve. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for assistance!!!

Re: Thinkpad L412 Integrated Camera and USB Controller Not working

Try it by swithing on and off your web cam.Make sure it's on Also look through all pages of your BIOS setup menu on the off chance it might be an option that can be disabled.

Re: Thinkpad L412 Integrated Camera and USB Controller Not working

Unfortunately, this was not helpful... The bios option was not what has caused this failure. None of the USB ports are functional , beyond power for external fan... The USB has "Unknown Device" in Device Manaver segment; search for webcam results in 'Hardware not Found'. Any other advise is welcomed.

Re: Thinkpad L412 Integrated Camera and USB Controller Not working

Grab the latest chipset driver package from Intel's download center, and run the setup EXE with the -overall switch.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to resolve the issue either... I was
hoping Lenovo would chime in with some guidance.

Keep me posted on your progress.

Re: Thinkpad L412 Integrated Camera and USB Controller Not working

ColonelONeill, thank you for response, but it didnt affect the devices that i had problem with.

Sadly i have just gave up and had to use Win 8.1 recovery, because there were no actual fix for this.

Re: Thinkpad L412 Integrated Camera and USB Controller Not working

Colonel O'Neill,

Unfortunately, the chipset approach failed (tried three times; same result). Any other suggestions? I would hate to have to scrap a computer because I cannot access USB ports, or use camera for skype with family...

Without USB Port access, what is the best way to move/backup extensive files, photos, and programs to external hard drive/backup (after which, I guess I need to shop for a new computer)?

Thanks!

maciekz16,

Did update to Windows 8.1 correct the problem with camera and/or USB ports?  Please advise.

Thanks!

Re: Thinkpad L412 Integrated Camera and USB Controller Not working

I suppose the next step is to make a bootable Linux live USB and see if the BIOS can boot to it at all, and if so, see if the other USB ports work in the Linux environment.
