Thinkpad L440 hanging at boot due to KB4467691/SecureBoot conflict

Confirmed having happened to five separate devices now, so this is not a random glitch. Installing KB4467691 (Windows Security Update) will cause the laptop to hang at the "Lenovo" splash screen at startup. It will have the standard "press enter to interrupt boot" message, but will not respond.

SOLUTION: Hit enter at startup before the boot hangs, to access the BIOS. Under Security, disable SecureBoot. Windows should now launch successfully. It's possible that you can then remove KB4467691 and re-enable SecureBoot again, but I have not yet been able to confirm this.

Had the same issue on a number of T440 and T450 as well these days - disabled secure boot.
Other fixes either lenovo or microsoft in sight?

Btw. we also have some T460 with intel SSDs which suddenly became "readonly" and had to be exchanged by our contractor.

Re: Thinkpad L440 hanging at boot due to KB4467691/SecureBoot conflict

We've experienced the same on a planty of x240 and L540, the machines boot process stucked at Lenovo screen, but the uninstalling of this patch does not help us to solve the problem, if we re-enable the Secure Boot, the computer does not start anyway.

Any Idea?

Regarding the SSDs, there is a Firmware Update for Intel SSDs which can solve the problem. You should try it.

We've already faced this issue and it helped us with lots of cases.

Under the Secure Boot section in the Bios you need to choose "Reset to Setup Mode", it helped us to solve our problem.

Re: Thinkpad L440 hanging at boot due to KB4467691/SecureBoot conflict

We have the same exact issue with Lenovo T440p's.  Turning off Secure boot solves it.  We have found 2 other workarounds.

(1) disable Secure boot in BIOS, then upgrade Windows 10 from 1607 to 1709, then re-enable Secure Boot.  Our testing has shown this issue only impacts Win10 v1607.

(2) Upgrade system from 4 GB to 8 GB RAM.  Makes no sense but it does resolve the issue.

As for someone's comment about "Reset to Setup Mode" that will work but it actually turns off secure boot.   The system boots up but when you go to msinfo32 secure boot state shows as Off. Reboots dont turn it on either, you have to reset it in BIOS to enable it but as soon as you do the problem with lockups on Lenovo BIOS splash screen return.

I opened a case with Lenovo, but they closed it as our systems are out of warranty. Luckly we have a support contract with Micorsoft, and since a Microsoft update caused the issue I have opened a case with them.  Will provide feedback once we get something from them.

Any news from Microsoft? We had the same issue and have halted the update to minimize the impact.
