Thinkpad L450 SSD

Hi, I'm considering to buy any SSD drive to my L450. This laptop has m.2 slot. Now I have a 500GB HDD in SATA port. Is it better to buy a small 128 GB M.2 SSD, or bigger 240GB SSD to SATA? If I buy 128 M2 SSD, I will keep a 500GB HDD in SATA position. So, is there any way to completely turn off HDD in SATA, if i will don´t need them? Or is it better buy bigger SATA SSD? On HDD will be only data (pics, videos, etc.), if I buy SATA SSD, i will make HDD as external.

Re: Thinkpad L450 SSD

You can have a HDD or SSD(2.5, 7mm) in the HDD/SSD slot.

The m.2 slot on your machine is probably under the battery, and is m2.2242 to hold

a 16GB Cache. Part number is:

2242.PNG

You can not place a OS on the 16G cache per hardware maintenance manual.

Parts list for your machine:

Specs:

http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad%20L450/ThinkPad_L450_Platform_Specificatio...

page 19 of HMM has the m.2 note:

• If the computer is equipped with both a hard disk drive and an M.2 solid-state drive, do not use the M.2 solid-state drive as a bootable device. The M.2 solid-state drive is designed and developed for “cache” function purpose only.
