Thinkpad L540 Touchad & Trackpoint DEAD after PR254199 firmware update

2019-03-30, 16:57 PM

This is an old issue, but looks like Lenovo still has not removed this offending firmware from the site (or update it or add a fix).

Anyone got any resolve on this issue, or is the "send in your device" the only option?

This looks like getting punished for allowing Vantage to continually update your notebook. And in process, "killing" an essential part of it (TrackPoint & Touchpad).

In my case, ID of touchpad is TM-2964-1 (Synaptic, not 100% sure).

When re-trying to apply firmware PR254199, update fails with error code 0x69.

This is the official update that causes this failure:

https://support.lenovo.com/us/th/downloads/ds121241

Dated 27 Mar 2017.

Direct download links:
README file: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/j4g502ww.txt
Firmware Patch: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/j4g502ww.exe

Same issue happened on X1 Carbon Gen.6, but there, different touch pad & track point are used and those updates do not help. Tried it. :(

HELP? Anyone?

Regards,

R.

P.S. L540 running latest Win10 Pro 64bit, had latest Synaptic driver 19.x installed (before problems).

Hi !

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums.

Are you still experiencing the same problem? Sorry for the late response.

According to the support website, the latest update for ThinkPad Synaptics 64-bit touchpad Firmware update utility is still the PR2541997 version maybe that's why you're not able to update it to PR254199. If the touchpad is still not working i suggest using an older version of Synaptics driver and observe if you'll see any changes.

Regards,
