I have a brand new refurbished SL 500 on which I cannot install the UltraNav or TrackPoint drivers. I am forced to use a USB mouse. Attempting to install the drivers from the lenovo support site result in an unhelpful "Installation Failed" error. This laptop is running Vista Business 32.

I don't know what to do - I've never had such problem. Anyway - do you attempt to install the latest Windows Vista 32 bit driver? Do you have all other drivers installed and updated?

I did not know that the SL500 used the Synaptics based device. I downloaded/installed the driver and it still does not work. I am starting to think that perhaps the device is not even pluged in..? The device will not even work in the ThinkVantage software when you boot to that.

Has anyone been able to find a solution for this problem. I having the exact issue and now I'm left with no touch pad or trackpoint. The Bios incidentally doesn't even have a mouse configuration what so ever.

My problem ended up being hardware. I had to contact customer support and they sent me a new track pad assembly which I was able to install. no problems after that.
