Welcome to the forum!

No you can't. Not even to Pentium M.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

George

Dear Guru,
Thanks. But I presume Mobile Intel Pentium 4 M-2.2Ghz processor (SL6VB (P4 2.2Mhzand )) can be used. But--
1- Is heat sink to be changed with the above?
2- What is the highest processor possible with R40e Thinkpad Notebook 2684 PA3? with or without heatsink change.
3- Is dual core celeron also an option.
4- The left trackpoint button is malfuctioning. Do i have to change the whole keyboard or can the button be changed ?
please guide?
Thanks.

Yes, you can use P4M 2.2 and up to 2.6, but expect a lot of heat with this upgrade. I don't believe that the heatsink on your machine can be upgraded.

No, you can't use the Celeron from the Dual Core era.

As for the button, the answer depends on a lot of things. If you can get a new keyboard for a reasonable price, take that route.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

George
