Vista SP1, R61i, Conexant HD Audio Driver

2008-04-20, 18:40 PM
ThinkPad R61i 8932-A11
Conexant HD Audio Device: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5045&SUBSYS_17AA20DB&REV_1001

I have installed Vista SP1, but am waiting for Lenovo to release the Conexant HD Audio driver update with version greater than 4.32.  Vista SP1 was RTM months ago, Conexant updated their reference driver long ago, why hasn't Lenovo released the update to its users?

This thread on Microsoft TechNet shows many users with the same problem: Link

A search on Microsoft's Update Catalog shows the most recent WHQL driver from 7/3/07: Link

Currently there is a new driver being tested for your system.  I do not have any date for availability.

The most recent Audio driver for your system user either chdartn.sys or chdrtn64.sys, v4.18.0.0.  These drivers are not currently being filtered by Microsoft.  This means that you should be seeing Vista SP1 on Windows Update.

This driver has not exhibited the reinstallation problem so you can download Vista SP1 either from WU or via a direct download.

If the audio is missing after you upgrade then all you need to do is reinstall your current driver.

Yes, this sucks.

On the Microsoft Vista SP1 list, the funny thing was that half the blocked drivers listed were applicable to my R61.

Lenovo needs to get it's finger out and update a few drivers... the Conexant Audio, Intel Graphics and UPEK fingerprint driver for a start.

Vista SP1 is now being pushed via Windows Update. Still, the only audio driver available from Lenovo is based on Conexant 4.18 which is not compatible with Vista SP1. The last driver offered by Lenovo for the laptop listed in Post 1 is from October 2007: link

When can I expect a driver update from Lenovo?

Thank you for the information. It seems I neglected to reboot the computer after re-installing the audio driver last time. Indeed, everything is working as it should.

Again, thank you.

Hi

I installed Vista SP1 a couple of days ago.  I have lost sound and cannot get if back - I have tried uninstalling, rebooting etc.

I have an R61i 7650 A6G.

If I try to re-install the 4.18 driver I get the message:

'The extended attributes are inconsistent'

Any ideas?

Thanks

I have (sort of) solved it.

in Control Panel -> Programs and Features I highlighted Conexant and clicked on Uninstall/Change and it did a few things and I can now get sound.

However, it appears to have installed a windows default driver.  The speaker buttons on te top left of the keyboard do not work and the Conexant entry in Programs and Features has gone!

Any idea when the new driver will be available?

This is not solved!!! The 4.18 driver does not work with Vista SP1.  Lenovo support is clueless and can't help.  Microsoft support just does a system restore to before SP1 and re-installs the old driver.  A "real" solution is a working SP1 Audio driver.

Thanks to "MiniRoll" I have my audio back but am also missing the button functionality on my Notebook.  I am now running Vista SP1 on my R61i.  Lenovo support said that they were escalating this to some Engineer but that I "should system restore to befors SP1 and shut off automatic updates"  Nice non-solution Lenovo.

Lenovo just released a fix for the buttons but not a new audio driver.  The Windows audio driver does not work.
