Welcome to the forum!

While I can't answer your question regarding the webcam bezel - was pretty surprised not to find the FRU # in the HMM - I will tell you the following regarding Merom to Penryn upgrade:

It's not a question of BIOS, but of a board revision. Original-spec planars (up to around late January/ early February of 2008) will throw a "thermal sensor error" on boot if a Penryn CPU is installed. Later boards will run either type of CPU.

Look at the bottom of your laptop and locate the sticker with the serial number. It also holds a production date in the YY/MM format, meaning that 07/12 is December of 2007. If you have one of the early boards that won't natively run a Penryn CPU, there's a modded (non-Lenovo) BIOS available which eliminates the aforementioned error.

Good luck.

Cheers,

George

Likely a Penryn board.

There's a FRU number of the board right by the RAM slots, check it out and report back.

Cheers,

George

Yes, it should work.

If I remember correctly, very early motherboards gave a thermal error with a Penryn CPU, installing Middleton BIOS will get rid of the error. If you plan to use an SSD on your R61 then the this BIOS is a must, you can download them from here: click me! Be careful to select the right one.

Which model is your R61i? Can you post the MTM number? It's a 7 digit code that can be found at the bottom of the laptop, don't post the S/N here!
