When I try to change the Lenovo Graphics settings, the computer blue screens and crashes.

2009-01-28, 21:03 PM
I have my SL500 laptop hooked into a usb port replicator and monitor. When I try to change any settings like Extend, mirror or any setting within the lenovo graphics settings, the computer crashes, blue screens and reboots. Any ideas??

We have 2 SL400 with that dock (43R8770) same problem.  One did it right out of the box and has been sent back for repair, the other worked for about a week then started the same thing.

Lenovo has been absolutly no help what so ever.  They think it's a bad video card (2 out of 2?).

We have tried to reinstall the sofware, swapped hardware, etc.

I've searched for things to try but found nothing.

Ooooh. I Did figure out if you plug in the monitor directly to the laptop and not the replicator thingy that it came up fine with that. But when I try to change any display settings though, it still crashes.  So annoying and frustrating considering it's a brand new laptop. Argh. Makes me so mad. I'm not a very computer saavy person, but I know that should not do that. Ugh!!

You are correct, it shouldn't do that, nor shopuld we have to troubleshoot our own problems.  Don't know if Lenovo monitors this forum but they are no help.

We have 1 system that for the time being works properly so I know it's possible.  I'm beginning to think it's a RAM Memory problem since the video card shares the memory.  I'll post anything we discover.  Maybe someone reading this forum will help.

When this happens a blue screen of death flashes before it reboots but it's so fast you can't read it.  Anyone know how to freeze this so it can be read?

XP Pro.

We have Vista but I hate to think about installing it.  Shouldn't make a difference anyway.

I recommend rather than waiting for lenovo to do something, to try this.  It's just software, it won't void your warranty or anything.

Download a new intel graphics driver from intel's website if you have an x4500mhd, and you may have better luck with that than the drivers that are available from lenovo.  If you have the nvidia, download the proper drivers from laptopvideo2go.com and give those a shot.

I had problems with 3d performance on my intel x4500, but the new drivers straight from intel fixed it.  You have to use a workaround to install them, however.

good luck
