Which R61 shoudl I keep?

2008-01-02, 15:03 PM
Thanks to Lenovo's crack sales staff, I have inadvertently ordered 2 thinkpads. Would like opinions on which one to keep. I'll use it primarily for web browsing, word processing, and some photo/movie/music stuff. The relevant stats are as follows:

R61e - Price $591
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7250 (2.0GHz 800MHz 2MBL2)
Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic
1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory
80 GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
CD-RW/DVD-ROM 24x/24x/24x/8x Max Combo Ultrabay Enhanced

R61i - Price $649
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T5250 (1.5GHz 667MHz 2MBL2)
Genuine Windows Vista Business
1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory
120 GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
DVD Recordable 8x Max Ultrabay Enhanced

I'd keep the R61e with the 2.0GHz CPU, but swap the hard disk and the DVD-drive with those from the R61i.
Alternatively, if you are going to sell the other one privately, you could also just swap CPU's and keep the R61i.
That way you wouldn't have a problem with the Windows COA stickers.

I wonder though why the first one, R61e, did not come with PC6400/800MHz SODIMMs.

imho, I'd keep the R61i.
You haven't stated an usage which would load the cpu, so that's not so important.
With Vista Business you are allowed to downgrade to Windows XP without having to buy an extra licence. :smileyhappy:
Depending on which model you have, it may be dockable and the optical drive may be modular which allows for more future flexibility. :smileyhappy:
At best you could supply us with both type / model numbers so we can see exactly what you have. Then RBS and I can argue the different corners :smileywink: (and of course anyone else who would like to take part in the discussion)

I would return both and reorder the R61e with XP professional.
Good luck!
