cannot turn on Thinkpad L540 when display cover was closed - need to replug main battery

My nice L540 20AV recently began having this issue which is surely a hardware issue but I do not know which part could be the issue.

Most of the times when I close the cover after powering the machine off or when sent to standby, I could not turn it on. Stand-alone or in the docking station. Nothing happens when pushing the power button.

When I unplug and replug the main battery, the machine can turned on immediately.

This is not a battery issue as this happens with all batteries that I have.

I tried several BIOS versions, but this did not change the behaviour.

As the machine has an i7 MQ and other high end components so I would like to use it some longer.

Of course it is out of warranty.

Anyone knows what replaceable part could cause this issue?

Re: cannot turn on Thinkpad L540 when display cover was closed - need to replug main battery

Hi! We highly suggest you to bring it to a local tech for further diagnosis to identify which part needs to be replaced. You may also bring it to any of our authorized repair centers. You can find the list here: https://support.lenovo.com/in/en/solutions/ht118678?CID=ww:lenovosocial:20x9m6. Filter the country and choose the nearest outlet base on your location.
