damaged vista sticker

The sticker on the bottom of my Thinkpad R61 is damaged. I also removed my installation partition.

But I do have a windows vista installation disc. But if I want to use this disc, I need the sticker on the bottom of my Thinkpad.

One letters is unreadable so I can't use it.

How can I reinstall windows vista without my sticker? Can I gain a new windows vista licence sticker?

Thank you

Re: damaged vista sticker

i guess you have to Microsoft regarding this problem, Lenovo can't just hand out Serial number like Microsoft can, i know Microsoft has gone al cheapo on its customer with Vista. At least with XP you got a plastic covered proof of authenticity sticker

Re: damaged vista sticker

If you had the recovery set they do not use the number on the sticker so they would install OK.

I don't think the serial number on the sticker will work with a retail version of Vista as it is an OEM serial number.

Re: damaged vista sticker

I know is does work. Why else would they give you a serialnumber with your thinkpad.

Re: damaged vista sticker

hello yosti

the serial number was given because its a rule that microsoft puts on OEM's to stick the COA sticker on the pc so that customers can know that they have genuine windows......if you have recovery cds use them to install vista..or if you want to use the retail version of vista and dont have it you can still install windows during setup simply dont enter the product key you can activate it later after contacting microsoft
