keyboard issues sl500

For the second time in two years, I have a laptop continuously recognize that the letter "q" is being pressed down. Last time it happened, it was still under warranty so I sent it away, this time I'm not so lucky. The device manager doesn't recognize the problem, I've updated the BIOS, pulled the keyboard out of the computer and it still thinks the "q" is down. I've also tried updating drivers, plugging in a usb keyboard but no matter what when the computer starts up its got the q and only the q with the laptop keyboard. Eventually if I press enough buttons it stops entering q and I can use the on screen keyboard or a usb keyboard but even then, not all the keys work on the functional keyboards. It recognizes them as different commands. I feel like getting a new laptop keyboard could fix it, but at the same time I'm worried it won't and its a lot of money/time to waste. any ideas? any are appreciated, thanks

Re: keyboard issues sl500

Hi Kat1689,
I know your post is long time ago, but maybe you can help me.

I'm facing the same problem. Did you find a way to fix this?
I already tried to replace the keyboard, but I have still the same problem.

Thanks in advance

Re: keyboard issues sl500

Have the same issue - notebook randomly puts in Q's and locks up the notebook.  Replaced the keyboard and even put in a new hard drive - same issue.  This is weird.  Could it be a motherboard issue?

Re: keyboard issues sl500

I'd think it's a software issue. Maybe try a bootable Ubuntu live CD or USB?
