Re: no hard drive found.....

Yes, it is because of the SATA hard drive. Go into the BIOS and set the SATA to "compatibility". Then XP will see it.

Did you make your Vista restore discs before you started installing XP. You may be able to still go back and do it now.

Re: no hard drive found.....

I have the same problem with me R51, but when I go into the BIOS there is no option to change the SATA mode. Do you have any suggestions

Re: no hard drive found.....

@Adamo:

That's because your R51 doesn't use SATA drive to begin with, but PATA/IDE. Your problem lies elsewhere, probably in a defective hard drive itself, or an improperly mounted one.

Hope this helps.

And, of course, welcome to the forum!

Cheers,

George

Re: no hard drive found.....

Thanks for the responce

I'm really kinda stumped. The R51 had XP on it, but it was crashing all the time. Eventualy I got frustraited and decided to start a new and formated the hard drive. Now i get that meassage when XP is being installed. " cannot find hard drive" ( or something along those lines). I checked in the BIOS and the hard drive is displayed. I thought that SATA mode was the problem, but I guess not.

Any suggestions?
