Have you ensured that all the drivers for your machine have been updated, such as the BIOS and chipset? After a new installation of an operating system, it's best to make sure everything is up to date. All your drivers can be found here.
As for the message, I would try downloading the Lenovo Settings app. This can be found in the store in Windows 8. Make sure this is downloaded and then try hitting the key combination again.
