"The L380 doesn't support SSDs larger than 512Gb"

So, I have just been on the phone with a Lenovo representative re my problem with 1Tb SSDs not being detected by my L380 (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-L-R-and-SL-series/Can-t-fit-third-party-nvme-in-L380/td-p/4295...) and this is what he told me.

"Our website says that the L380 supports 512Gb SSD max, therefore larger SSDs are not supported and there's nothig we can do about it".

Now this sounds completely absurd to me, but maybe there is some sort of limitation in place at the BIOS level. Is there anyone from Lenovo on this forum that can (dis)confirm what I have been told?

Hi there! I just want to know whether this is just for the L380 (non-yoga) or does this affect the L380 Yoga too?

It doesn't affect any model. My machine was obviously defective, I sent it in and they replaced the motherboard. Now SSDs of all sizes work flawlessly. The guy just didn't have a clue.

Thanks for the reply!

You said SSD of all sizes, so does that mean that I can use m.2 SATA SSD too? Or am I just stuck to use m.2 NVME SSDs only since I ordered mine with a 256GB one?

If possible, I would like to use m.2 SATA SSDs  e.g Crucial MX500/Samsung 860 EVO because they are cheaper or am I out of luck here and must solely use m.2 NVME SSDs like your Crucial P1/Samsung 970 EVO?
