Hi beyond_grimm,

I think the wireless cards mentioned on page 152-153 in the following manual are the only ones supported:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-73322

Also, bear in mind only lenovo approved cards get passed by the BIOS, i.e. I think they have to be bought directly from lenovo or resellers who claim they would work cent percent in your thinkpad, there are many on ebay who sell lenovo approved compatible cards.

Hope it helps.

Yes, both the 51 and 53 hundred series of cards are not going to perform those functions for you. Your best bet is if you are in warranty call support and state your problem and ask to speak to an engineer. If you are not do the same drop your nickel IBM is still the most knowledgeable people on their equipment. That person can give you the MRU for the part that you need. If IBM doesn't have a solution for you then I would suggest first try SMC they have been particularly helpful to me with finding my solution even when they don't make it. smc.com

well at this point i assumed the card could not handle wpa, which it is listed as being able to in the white sheets. i actually believe the card is defective, and yes the system is under warranty.

i just replaced the card with this one i found on ebay =  thinkpad 11b/g/n mini pcie . works like a charm under win xp 32bit, 64bit and ubuntu linux.

i believe the intel 5100 card is defective because it randomly connected to wpa yesterday at school but then after an hour dropped the connection. i tried it at home and it failed again, the router was less than 4 feet from it.

is there somewhere i can return the card t o @ ibm ti get it replaced ?
