Re: Z61M Display growing dim

wdg, welcome to the forum,

Is the display a little pinkish when you first start the system?  If so this is an indication that the backlight, ccfl, is failing and that it may be time to start looking around for a new display.

If not, please tell us more.

Re: Z61M Display growing dim

No, its doesn't start up with a pinkish tent to the display. It has just become dim over time. I also have a new T410 and it is very noticeably brighter. The whites are merely grey by comparison. If you have an e-mail I could send you a picture of them side by side.

These are awesome machines...check my signature...Smiley Wink

Two ways to go about this:

a) Get a replacement panel - a genuine one with a FRU number, not an aftermarket piece of trash.

b) Change the backlight (CCFL) in your current LCD. This is a cheaper way out, but the procedure itself is quite finicky.

Do bear in mind that any WSXGA+ LCDs from T60/61/p, R61, T500, R500 and W500 will work in your ThinkPad.

Good luck.

In daily use: R60F, R500F, T61, T410

Enjoying retirement: A31p, T42p,

Non-ThinkPads: Panasonic CF-31 & CF-52, HP 8760W
