1TB drive suggestions for bay adapter

2012-07-24, 19:58 PM

I have a W530 on order and will be installing the samsung 830 SSD.  I've ordered the bay adapter III and plan to use the DVD bay for a 1TB drive.  Anyone purchased a 1TB that's working well?  What brand?  I assume I will need a 2.5" drive.  Thanks for any help.

My new WD Scorpio Blue 1TB WD10JPVT arrived today and it seems to be working well. I put it in the Lenovo TP Drive UltraBay 12,7mm SATA HDD Bay Adapter III and it fits fine (it's just 9.5 mm thick). I'd definitely recommend it.

Lenovo ThinkPad W520 15.6" 1920x1080, UEFI 1.42, Intel Core i7-2820QM 2.3GHz, Intel HD3000 + nVidia Quadro 2000M 2GB, Kingston PNP 16GB (4x4GB) 1600MHz RAM, Crucial m4 040H 256GB SSD, Lenovo TP Drive Adapter UltraBay 12,7mm + WD Blue 1TB 5400rpm HDD, Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN, Gobi 3000, Lenovo TP Port Mini Dock Plus Series 3, Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit

I have Seagate Momentus STBD1000100, working fine so far in the ThinkPad 12.7mm Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay (part no. 0A65623). I think only other options are Samsung Spinpoint M8 and  Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD10JPVT. Some older 1TB 2.5 drives are 12.5 mm high and wont fit, so make sure you order one of these 3, which are 9.5 mm.

I can recommend the Samsung M8 HN-M101MBB. I currently have 7 of them in use in my Thinkpads. These drives are reliable and moderately fast (for hdds).
