Battery Drain After Intel Management Engine Firmware Update

2021-06-16, 0:18 AM

Hi,

I hace a Thinkpad P70 Workstation, and today installed as recommended the Intel Management Engine Firmware Update 11.8.86.3909, before that I was working with the battery as usual, without any problem, but after the update were installed, the charging was stopped, I restarted the computer, and now I get a message that my battery is damaged and it needs to be replaced, I'm pretty sure that my battery is fine, how can I fix this?

Best Regards

Hello,

I do not have a ThinkPad P70 myself, but I am wondering if you power down the machine, remove the battery, wait a few minutes, plug it back in, and then turn on the device causes any difference in behavior?

Along with what groetsky said, I'd also recommend performing a Load Default Settings in the BIOS:

BIOS Load Default Settings.
- Select the Start Menu, then choose Settings > Update & Security > Recovery. Under Advanced startup, select Restart now. After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > UEFI Firmware settings
:or:
- Press the power button to completely shut down the unit.
- Press the F1 or F2 (FN+F1 or F2) repeatedly on startup to enter BIOS.
- Navigate to the "Restart" tab
- Press "Load Default Settings"
- Save & Exit changes or F10.

Hello, The BIOS has been restored with the default values, but it didn't change anything, I'm going to attach a battery use report, where you can look the exact time where the battery stops receiving charge,

Best Regards

Dear customer,

I'd like you to try below steps whether your issue will be gone or not.

  1. Remove AC and abattery
  2. Open back panel and remove Coin battery (RTC Battery ) once, leave it a minute
  3. Re-attach Coin battery, close the back panel, attach battery and AC, then boot
  4. You will be prompted to enter BIOS Setup because of CMOS error, then press F1 to go BIOS Setup and adjust Date/Time
  5. Press F10 to save & Exit BIOS.

Dear customer,

if previous CMOS test doesn't work, please follow the below step to capture the log and attached here.

  1. If you had apply the MEFW by Lenovo Vantage, please get the MEFW package from the Lenovo Web and extract the package to locao directory
  2. Open command prompt and go to extracted directory.
  3. Perfrom below command
    Meinfowin64.exe -verbose > P70_logs.txt
  4. Post the P70_log.txt file to the forum

Don't worry, output log file doesn't contain your private information.

Dev team tried to duplicate your symptom with the follwoing BIOS / ECFW on their P70, but they couldn't duplicate it so far.

BIOS: N1DET86W

ECFW: N1DHT35W
