Blue Screen of Death in iastor.sys - W500

2009-01-19, 14:24 PM

I get the blue screen of death on my W500 Thinkpad 3 or 4 times a day.

The error is always in the same place in iastor.sys.

I have version 8.6.1007 (9/12/2008) of the Intel ICH9M-E/M SATA ACHI Controller installed. I am getting ready to try a newer or older version of the driver.

I contacted Lenovo support. They suggested a BIOS upgrade and ATI Video driver upgrade - no help.

I ran CHKDSK last night - it found some minor problems - but did not solve the problems.

Has anyone else run into this and/or does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Blue Screen of Death in iastor.sys - W500

My company is in the process of deploying new T400 laptops with the solid state hard drives. We have created a base image from the OEM install that comes pre-loaded (Windows XP Pro) on these machines. When a new machine come in, we reimage it with our image that includes updates, MS Office, Acrobat, etc. The machines work like a champ for the first couple of days and then they start blue screening multiple times a day. I've checked the system logs, and notated the BSOD errors and they all point to iastor.sys.

Our machines also have the Intel ICH9M-E/M SATA ACHI Controller installed (version 8.6.1007 (9/12/2008)).

Laptop Model: 2767-B96

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since posting this message, I went to the Lenovo support page and searched for the latest ACHIdriver. Indeed there was a newer driver available  - which the Lenovo automatic update does not isntall - and which Lenovo technical support did not bother to mention - I went ahead and installed the new driver and since then I haven't had any BSODs.

It has only been two days, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. If I don;t get any more BSODs for about a week then I think I can concluded that the new ACHI driver fixed the problem.
