BlueTooth for P50 Laptop. Can't see in Device Driver or elsewhere

2018-04-05, 19:47 PM

I am trying to determine if my laptop has bluetooth natively.  I do not see ANY mention of Bluetooth in Device Manager.  Do I have to download a driver or something else?  If there is no Bluetooth can someone recommend a dongle?  If there is Bluetooth, had do I set it up?  The device I want to talk to support BLE.

It's a P50 and I used Lenovos "Determine my system" feature to see that the serial and model number are:

xxxxx

20EQS00W00

The specs claim: (Notice the mention of BT4.1)

Processor: 1x ()

Memory: 2x

Operating System: ()

Hard Drive: 2x 512GB PCIe

Wireless Network: 1x Intel Wireless 8260(2x2AC) with BT4.1

Ports: 1x RJ-45

Camera: 1x 720p HD Camera

Graphics: 15.6 1920x1080

Monitor: 3 Year Depot

Thank you!

Dave

This

Wireless Network: 1x Intel Wireless 8260(2x2AC) with BT4.1

.. has the Bluetooth integrated into it.

Go to > "settings"

in the search box type > "device manager"

click the device manager shortcut then you should see the bluetooth device .. if it isn't showing post back, if it is not there then you have an after market wifi card installed that does not have Bluetooth integrated.

This should work, the Intel card carries BT as well as WLAN (unlike older thinkpads which had a separate BT dongle inside the machine). Pls make sure you are not in Airplane Mode, try to search for BT devices from Windows, it might "enable" BT in the process.

Thanks for the quick response!
In Device Driver there is no Bluetooth entry. There is an entry under Network Adapter for 8260 (but no mention of Bluetooth whatsoever)

And Airplane mode is OFF

When I go to Bluetooth and other devices under settings and click "Add Bluetooth or other device" and click Bluetooth, I get "Could not connect. Here are some things to try: On this Window device, turn on Bluetooth. If this device Bluetooth, but you can't turn it on, update your driver through Windows Update in Settings"

I've tried to update 8260 Network card and it said I am already up to date. I can't see where one would turn on/off Bluetooth. there's no icon in lower right. I suspect because there is no Bluetooth to turn on/off. Either because it doesn't exist or I need to do something to get computer to see it. Thanks

here is the blue tooth driver download page from Intel ... download and install.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27622/Wireless-Intel-Wireless-Bluetooth-for-Windows-10?product=86068

If the installer says that the bluetooth device doesn't exist then come back and we'll troubleshoot some more.

This helped me too

Have you tried clicking F8 (or Fn+F8 if that doesn't work) to open the radio control panel?

From here, you should be able to see if you have Bluetooth or not and enable/disable it.

You might look at this other thread, about "cannot get Bluetooth to work on P70".

I have several posts in that thread, and though initially I didn't have Bluetooth functionality working in Win10 I was eventually able to get it working just fine as described in this particular post.

Originally I didn't think I had any actual Bluetooth devices I could verify worked properly with my P70.  But then I realized I could use my Samsung Galaxy S7 phone to test out everything.  So this second post of mine in that thread described how I was able to demonstrate that it really worked perfectly.

Does this new information help you out?

Mutty (Fanfold Paper),

That worked. Thank you! For others reading this later ... I did have to reboot after doing installation. I was not prompted to reboot, but Bluetooth didn't show up until a reboot.
