Re:Brand new P73 - message on screen says: "The connected AC adapter has a lower wattage..."

2021-04-21, 12:36 PM

Hello,

As mentioned in a post in this thread from last year:

This is not a bug or a defect but a safety feature.

Airplanes with 100 Watt charging receptacles are becoming more standard, however, as I recall, the ThinkPad P53 requires a 170 or even a 230 Watt charger, depending upon its configuration.

Plugging a device into an airplane seat power outlet that consumers 1.7-2.3 times the wattage could cause the outlet's circuit breaker to trip.  If there is an electrical problem with the outlet, though, an electrical fire could occur aboard the airplane.

The Airplane Mode option on the computer disables AC charging so that in case the computer is plugged into an outlet with faulty circuit breaker, it just won't charge, as opposed to starting an electrical fire aboard the plane in which you are flying.

This applies to the ThinkPad P73 and other ThinkPads which use a SlimTip charging port because they require more than 100W of power to charge.

Regards,

Awesome, this saved me! I had actually turned my new T15g's airplane mode on deliberately, as I'm using wired networking, not knowing that it would cause the ac adapter to get throttled. Plus a scary and misleading error message displayed on startup...

I have the same situation with my days old P17.

I noticed the error comes only when the "airplane mode" is engaged.

There is no error when the "airplane mode is not in use"

I have p15, I faced same issue just because of I had enabled airplane power protection mode through commercial vantage app. As soon as I disabled, it started working again. THANKS
