Camera on W540 is not working

I have tested the following on 2 identical W540 machines.

 

After installing Windows 8.1, the internal camera is not working. I dont remember if the camera worked before we installed 8.1. I have installed all relevant drivers and updated all windows updates. I have installed all drivers from System update.

Update, 5 of 7 identical machines have this issue.... I cannot belive its a DOA percentage of over 70% on the cameras........?

Update; it was the "private mode" that had been enabled in the "Lenovo Settings" modern app....

I'm using windows 7 and the integrated camera is not working. I can see the led turning green when I try to video chat (skype or others), but there is never any image from the camera. I can see the camera from the device manager, but not from anywhere else (e.i. lenovo communications utility).

I had the same problem.

 

I solved it by doing the following:

1) Deactivating the camera (the device with the SunplusIT driver) in Control Panel->System->Device manager

2) Reboot

3) Activating again the deactivated driver in System->Device manager

4) Start Lenovo Web conference from the Control Panel (if not available, download with Lenovo System Update)

5) Camera should now be functioning and available for setup in that application

Thank you for your help. Unfotunately it didn't work. However,considering the absence of solution from Lenovo and the absence of any help from them, and also considering the fact they wanted to charge extra fees to find the cause of camera problems (although it NEVER worked), our organisation decided to buy computers from another brand.

did you try to disable private mode on the camera?

I had an image just like this one. I then found out that there was an unresolved/unrecognized device (marked with an exclamation mark) in Control Panel->System->Device manager (see image in separate post below).

I suspected that device as being the camera being recognised as a separate device, in addition to the already recognised (but not properly working) camera. If correct, these two devices would be competing for the same hw resources.

 

Accordingly, I disabled the unrecognised device (to allow the already installed camera driver to function properly) and then rebooted. After reboot I started Lenovo Web conference from the Control Panel and - surprise, surprise - the camera then worked.
