Can't connect to any wireless networks on W530

2013-06-29, 13:52 PM
Fresh Windows 7 install, I've installed all the appropriate drivers. :( Just says Windows cannot connect to blah blah blah network.

I've tried older drivers that used to work, I've reset the router, I've tried seemingly everything except reinstalling Windows itself. Any ideas? Thanks guys. Posting this from my tablet, so sorry if there are any stupid mistakes here.

Hi dylancolon,

Did you use Lenovo System Update or intel's website to install the drivers? If not, I would probably try those (make sure to uninstall previous versions first). What kind of wireless card do you have? The basic Thinkpad b/g/n 1x1 card is known to have some problems. Also, are there any specific settings for the wireless network, and do you have other computers that can connect wirelessly without any problem? Hope this helps.

I've tried both sadly. Well, for the Intel centrino. I didn't think Intel made drivers for the card. I'll try searching for those now! Thank you so much.

Reinstalled windows, and still not working. :( I've tried the latest lenovo drivers and the latest Intel drivers. Neither fixed the issue. :(

If you go to device manager and look for your network card, is there an exclamation or red x mark on it? Also, have you tried connecting to other wireless networks (not from your router), and were any connections working before the fresh installs (lenovo factory install)? If the connections weren't working before, then I suspect a faulty network card. If your laptop is still under warrenty, you can have them ship you a new one and install it to see if that works. Hope this helps.

Connections were working fine before the fresh install. There isn't a red x next to the N 6205 in device manager. I'm currently charging my phone to see if it will connect to an access point generated out of there. I'll respond back soon, thank you for the help.

And the install was an ISO from Microsoft Dreamspark, direct from Microsoft.

HI again dylancolon,

Do you happen to be using a server OS like Server 2008 or Server 2012? I ask this because dreamspark offers these types of operating systems and not ones typically used for personal use, like Windows 7 Professional. If you are using a Microsoft Server OS, the wireless service is not installed by default (servers are usually not designed to use wireless). Here is the way to install the service for Server 2008: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/gg597292.aspx, and for Server 2012: http://blogs.technet.com/b/blainbar/archive/2012/09/14/getting-your-windows-server-2012-to-use-wireless-not-best-practice-but.aspx. Hope this helps.

Edit: Nevermind, you already posted that your using Windows 7 (Professional or Home I assume).

So your wireless card is able to scan for networks (SSIDs)?

If you go to a nearby coffee shop with free WiFi, can you connect to it? (they usually don't use any encryption, so it is a way to test if your problem lies within the WEP/WPA subsystem)

Is Thinkvantage Access Connections installed and are you using it to connect, or are you using Windows builtin stuff?
