Can we upgrade AC9560 Wifi Card for P1 Gen 1 to any New Intel Wifi card with AX support?

2021-02-27, 13:53 PM

Just want to check anyone is successful to replace AC9560 cards into AX201 or AX210?

I heard AC9560 use CNVio while AX201's CNVio 2 is not backward compatible.

Hope to see any potential workaround on that.

Hello herbertsi,

Greetings

Based on the parts look up, the P1 only use the 9560 Wireless Card.

Let's see if other fellow users were able to upgrade the wireless network card.

On P52 other have tried the AX200 model insted of CNVi as the socket has providsion for PCIe as well as CNVi.

I would order a standard AX200 and try here.

Hi, I wish you all the best to test if AX200 works on p52. If P52 works P1 Gen 1 should be possible to use it....I heard some people said the Bluetooth function will not work (https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/c4mpf2/has_anyone_tried_intel_ax201_wifi_6_with_a/)

Maybe you can try AX210 instead, since both AX200/210 use Wi-Fi(PCIe), BT(USB)

You can refers to links below or the attached PDF:

I have not seen any report of AX210 working in any thinkpad.

I have  reports showing AX200 working on P52, (I guess this is why P53 uses AX200, they probably use the same socket in P52 and P53.)

For bluetooth, well just use the Intel supplied device driver. I have not faced bluetooth issues on AX200 with T430s, P50, P51, there is no way Lenovo can block bluetooth on a particular thinkpad. It must be a user error. What I have seen is that bluetooth can be swtiched off by something like Lenovo Vantage causeing you to believe it is broken.

As an update, I managed to use AX210 for my P1 Gen 1 (BIOS version 1.36)

I encountered boot issue at start but once I go into BIOS setup page to check setting, then I can boot into Windows 10 without any issue.

The only headache is you will not be able to use native Bluetooth 5.2 inside the WIFI card, as WIFI card socket in P1 Gen 1 does not support Bluetooth USB interface.

As long as you are fine to go for external Bluetooth USB dongle, just upgrade the AC9560 card.

I upgraded a P1G1 and a P51 with AX210 and are able to use the native Bluetooth 5.2 without issue.

Can you check from Device Manager?

I noted your screenshot is coming from Intel Website's Support Page, and the machine being displayed should not be P1 (as Quadro version for P1 should be P1000 or P2000...)

I installed official Intel Bluetooth driver but cannot detect BT function (See screenshot)

Appreicate if you can advise us on how you setup and achieve native BT5.2 thanks.

Since we are modding the official machine my first advice is to use the Intel Driver Support Assistant to scan the computer for compatible drivers.

My screenshot is from Intel Driver Support Assistant.

Once you have a similar output we can take it to the next step of troubleshooting.

Here is the device manager output:

I have upgraded P1, P53, P51, P50, T430s with AX200 and AX210 and never faced any issue with Bluetooth, provided I had the correct driver present (W10).

The only other possible reason I could think of if somehow the feature had been switched off, flight mode or otherwise software disabled. Do you have a Bluetooth icon in message center, what happens if you press it?

My Intel Bluetooth driver is: 22.60.0.6
