Cannot install Samsung Magician 4.0 for SSD on W520

2013-02-25, 19:21 PM

I have a Samsung 840 SSD installed in my W520.  When I try to install the Samsung Magician 4.0 firmware manager, I get the following error box:

"INSTLALATION CANNOT CONTINUE: Windows Management Instrumentation service is disabled.  Please enable and try again"

But when I go to Windows services, the service is running.

 I get the same error running as Administrator.

Any ideas?

The Performance counters have become corrupted. Try the following to fix the issue:

  • Run Command Prompt as Administrator
  • Type lodctr /r  to rebuild the performance counters

P53 XEON 2276 BIOS 1.28 OLED UHD 4K Multi-touch display, 96GB RAM, RTX5000, RAID 1, 1TB x 2 Samsung PM981, 1TB PM981, WWAN
P70 XEON 1505, BIOS 2.35, 4k Display, 64GB, M3000M NVIDIA GPU, RAID1 1TB Samsung PM981 PCIe-NVMe SSD x 2, 2x Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SSD. EM7455 WWAN
P1. BIOS 1.25,Xeon Processor, 4k UHD IPS multi-touch display, 32GB, PM981 1TB x 2, RAID1

There is another possible solution to rebuild WMI;;

1. Run CMD prompt as Administrator

2. Execute the following:

winmgmt /standalonehost

winmgmt /salvagerepository

3. REBOOT

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. If the savalgerepository did not correct the issue, then the following command will restore the

WMI respository to its initial OS install state.

winmgmt /resetrepository

5. REBOOT

P53 XEON 2276 BIOS 1.28 OLED UHD 4K Multi-touch display, 96GB RAM, RTX5000, RAID 1, 1TB x 2 Samsung PM981, 1TB PM981, WWAN

First option did not work.

Received an error during the second:

WMI repository reset failed.

Error 0x8077041B

Stop control has been sent to a service that other running services depend on.

I appreciate your assistance ... I have absolutely no idea what's going on.

Hi!

I have exactly the same problem. Haven't got time to test very much but there are some more parameters that could be of interest:

* I am using Windows 8 (64).

* I am running Hyper-V (have got other unpleasant side effects)

Interesting - I'm using VMWare - wonder if using the virtualization function is somehow getting in the way.

Just run the installer in compatibility mode. XP SP3 works fine.

Installing in XP compatibilty mode worked for me.  For those that don't know how to do this, I wrote up the procedure here:
