Hi,
My ThinkPad P70 shipped with Windows 8, which I have replaced with Windows 10 by upgrading, then replaced with Windows 10 Pro by entering my Microsoft license key in the Settings application on Windows 10.
I have recently tried to reinstall Windows 10 Pro for a full (wipe & load) clean install by following these steps:
- deleting the "c:\" and the "WinRE" partitions,
- creating a new "c:\" partition encompassing the full disk space previously used by "c:\" and "WinRE" partitions,
- formatting my new "c:\" partition
- and then installing a fresh Windows 10 Pro OS from Microsoft USB drive.
Upon completion of Windows 10 Pro installation, the OS presented errors/ warnings that drivers could not be found, nor installed for the following: (List copied from the Hardware Troubleshooter utility output report.)
- Microsoft Basic Display Adapter (1 instance)
- PCI Device (1 instance)
- Ethernet Controller (1 instance)
- Network Controller (1 instance)
- PCI Memory Controller (1 instance)
- SM Bus Controller (1 instance)
- PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller (1 instance)
- PCI Simple Communications Controller (1 instance)
- Unknown device (4 instances)
As a result of the fact that these drivers were not found & not installed, I was not able to connect to Lenovo Support or Windows Update to download drivers. I have subsequently reverted to a backup image of the old installation but, I am still hoping to be able to perform a full clean installation due to some security concerns that I presently have with the existing Windows 10 Pro installation.
Can anyone suggest why these drivers were not found/ installed by the Microsoft Windows 10 installation?
Do I need to download drivers for all of these devices individually (some of the devices being unknown), prior to attempting a clean install again?
Thank you for any help that you can offer,
