Disable Touchpad

2012-11-28, 18:30 PM

Hi guys.

Is there the ability to disable the touchpad on the W530? I don't see it as an option in the function keys. I am using a mouse and it's a bit annoying brushing my hand against it and having it mess something up.

Thank you.

Yes. You can disable it completely in BIOS (I've done that and also skipped installing the now unneccessary driver when I reinstalled Win7).

Or you can go to the Control Panel -> Mouse, and disable the Touchpad there.

There is an option in the BIOS that disables it. Also, if you want to go back and forth, in the control panel, under mouse, choose the ultranav tab and you can disable it there also. On the ultranav tab, you can also reduce the sensitivity, which might do what you want.

I had the same problem on a W500.  Used the freeware TOUCHFREEZE software that I found on the internet.

Stops the jumping of characters when typing.  When not typing the touchpad works normally.

I am not sure what your computer is, but on my laptop which is a G580, I found an easy and direct method which I posted here: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Essential/G580-Pointing-Device-Mouse-problem/m-p/1172683#M45206

@hgkaroley Touchfreeze works beautifully!  Thanks.

I wish Lenovo would just add a button or function to turn the touchpad on/off like HP does.

What do I do if the f8 key does nothing, and I don't have an UltraNav tab or any other useful tab in the mouse settings in control panel?

I have a G460 with the elan device that will not respect an attempt to use the control panel to either disable completely or disable then USB mouse is present. I even uninstalled the driver, but Win 7 auto re-installed it upon re-boot. What is the exact bios procedure. If that doesn't work who wants a PC!!!!
