Downloading down loads onto desktop

2019-05-19, 17:53 PM

Rather than downloading downloads to a separate download file (extra step to remember) how do I get downloasds to down load onto the desktop?  Thanks.

That depends on your browser - which you don't name (or specific Tablet or OS, for that matter..).  In FireFox, for instance, in Options -> General -> Files and Applications the choices are "save files to <browse>" and "always ask".  One can use the first option to set the default location to Desktop.

Been down that road. I'm afraid not. In use FF and when I select 'Desktop" the best that I csan get is a shortcut to a download folder.Seems to be a Lenovo 'thing.'

Thank you.

Just tested on a Lenovo X390 Yoga with FireFoxand it works as I expect it to - with one wrinkle I hadn't noticed before.

Directly left clicking on a downloadable file saves it to my desktop w/no further user intervention.  However, right clicking and selecting "save link as" brings up a window to browse for the location - which makes sense, now that I think about it.

It's just a heck of a lot easier to go with the flow and have the download go to thedownload file via shortcut. Opening the document to save to the desktop can be done but it is more laborious.

Sometimes it seems like changes are made just to make a change. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," doesn't nessisarily apply ti IT.

Thanks for investigating.

Dave, I'm puzzled.  I think maybe I don't understand what you're looking for.

When I set the default in FireFox to put downloads on the desktop, it does exactly that.

Oh my YOGA Tablet 2 running Windows 10, I have my browser ( Pale Moon at the moment) download to a specific folder.  Maybe I don't understand the question either. As Z. mentioned, it has always been in the browser settings.

: again, what model and what operating system?  IIRC there was an Android TP Tablet, and that might explain the different behavior we're seeing.

Re: Downloading down loads onto desktop

What I've always done before on Fire Fox was select where I wanted downlods to dowlod and was always able to download documents, etc. to the PC's desktop. I never needed to download to either the download folder on the drive or download to a file on the desktop just download the doc to the desktop. That's about as clear as I can make it.

A bigger problem is getting Dropbox to sync. It's supposed to sync automatically and it doesn't. I downloaded fm the actual DB site but no dice.

Thank you for yor help.
