Re: Dual DVI Monitors, W500 laptop

I finally got my Lenovo USB to DVI adapter.  That's the good part.

The bad part is, it doesn't seem to do anything for me.  I plugged it in, Windows 7 (64bit) detected it and downloaded some DisplayLink software/driver package, installed it and asked me to reboot, all automatically, as you would expect.

After reboot, when I plug the adapter in, it detects it just fine, the monitor goes 'black' (but it's on - no blinking lights or anything), it just isn't displaying anything.

The monitor is a 24" Samsung, native resolution is 1920x1200, which this adapter is supposed to handle.

Can anyone shed some light on this situation of mine?  Is it because I'm running Windows 7?  64 bit?  both?

Thanks,

James

You need to go into the windows display properties (right click on desktop -> screen resolution) and tell windows to either mirror or extend onto this display.

Also you should get the lastest drivers from displaylink.com.

If you're still having problems, displaylink.com has a support forum.

- I use windows7 - 64 bit with no problems.

I tried this already before I posted.  It automatically selects "extend".  If I try and use 'duplicate', a message box pops up with "Unable to save display settings." in it.  Wonderful.

BTW, i'm running a W500.

I would try getting the latest drivers, then checking on their support forum.

If that doesn't work I can send you the version of the driver I use.

I'd already tried the latest drivers from DisplayLink.org (DisplayLink-5.2.21675.exe) to no avail.

I have posted on their forum here:  http://www.displaylink.org/forum/showthread.php?p=666#post666

Hey look - I'm post #666.   Mark of the beast.  ;)

Got a fix for this issue from the displaylink forum - Currently, you need set your W500 to disable Switchable Graphics. Turn on either Discrete or Integrated, just not Switchable - and do it in the BIOS.
