Expanded battery recall 2015

2015-04-21, 17:59 PM

All,

Today, Lenovo has added additional batteries to a battery recall program announced last year.

Please visit the Lenovo support site here to determine if your battery is affected, and if so, to obtain a replacement.

Best regards,

Mark

Same here. I wonder if they're being replaced with the new chipped batteries.

Re: Expanded battery recall 2015

I have a w510 with a battery that was part of the recall.  I have a couple of questions.

One my old battery was a 55++ the new one is 70++ is that ok?  According to battery manager the new one that i just received as part of the recall has a part number FRU 45N1173.  The old recalled battery had a FRU of 42T4799.  I cannot find the new one on the compatibility list of the accessories for the w510.  the battery is charging though.  Also its showing manufacture date of 1/22/14 and it is at 97% capacity fully charged.  In the past all my new batteries have been 100% capacity at 1st use.  I heard some new batteries have chip and i dont want to have a problem where the battery no longer charges.

thanks!

Yeah my 55++ got replaced by a 70++ as well. They're supposed to be backwards compatible.

Interestingly enough, the 55++ had 93.24 Wh design capacity, while the 70++ has 93.96 Wh design capacity. Tiny benefit, but benefit nonetheless. I ran a battery reset on the first charging cycle, revealing a total of 98.65 Wh actual full charge capacity.

By default, if you unplug and replug the machine when the charge level is between 96% and 100%, it won't charge the remainder for battery wear reduction purposes.

Is there a site where one can input the part number and serial number of a battery and see it has been recalled? That would be the eaiest solution for me since my W520 is currently broken and can't run the automated olutoin.

Thanks,

Phil

The page Mark linked has a link to a manual procedure for determining battery status:  https://lenovobattery2014.orderz.com/

Re: Expanded battery recall 2015

Well, in my case, the batteries on my T510 and W530 were reported as not being affected. However, I must add that the instructions for removing the application did not work, at all, in both machines.

Running the automated solution again, as instructed, would only run it again, period. No option was provided for "Repair" or "Remove". So I uninstalled following the path of Control Panel. Just wanted to report this failure for the record.

What are the "new chipped batteries"? And why do I have a feeling that's not a good thing?
