Headphones Removed from Windows Audio as Device After Lenovo System Update

2019-02-01, 23:05 PM

After a Lenovo System Update (details below), the headphone jack has completely stopped working on my Thinkpad. The headphones no longer appear in the device manager or sound options any longer, as a sound output or input option.

Disabling related audio devices, uninstalling drivers completely have not solved this problem.

Here are some of the updates that I believe were installed

- Updated BIOS (Dec 21, 2018)

- Realtek Audio Driver (Dec 24, 2018)

- Thunderbolt Firmware (Nov 14, 2018)

- Thunderbolt Software (Dec 12, 2018)

- Thinkpad Video (Jan 29, 2019)

Please help!

Would be helpful if you provided your machine type and Windows variety (10 or 7).  That way the actual version/filename of the various system updates you enumerate and have provided dates for could be known.

I checked my P52 running Win10, after all the latest Windows Updates and Lenovo System Updates, my headphones still work.  Just to clarify, you're using analog headphones with the 3.5mm headphone jack, right?  I don't see headphones in device manager, but I don't think they are supposed to be there.  In sound control panel -> playback tab, there is a single device "Speakers/HP" where HP means headphones.  It's the same device whether headphones are plugged in or not.

Thanks for your help. I did a pretty big uninstall/reinstall batch of every related driver I could think of, so it's hard to attribute what resolved it, but its working now.

Resolved.

Headphones Removed from Windows Audio as Device After Lenovo System Update

2020-03-21, 11:39 AM

After updating my windows 10 and installing the audio driver, I can't see my headphone in playback devices and also in device manager it isn't. Even in hidden devices! And just there is speaker in playback devices.

BUT my headphone works properly!

Before update the windows and driver, I could see both of headphone and speaker in playback devices.

I want to add it to the playback devices!!!!!! Please guide me!

Windows 10, Thinkpad E540. Conexant 20751 SmartAudio HD.
