Hi there good people, I've just add more RAM on my Thinkpad W540, it has 4 slots for each 8 giga of RAM, so it has the capacity until 32 giga of RAM, I've succeeded adding my first 8 giga RAM after having the first 8 giga as existing from the seller (I bought it as a second hand), so it had 16 giga of RAM then, accidentally I add at the right slot for the next 8 giga of RAM (I added it at Slot 4). So slot 1 and 4 were filled with each 8 giga of RAM until now (1 month after first 8 giga of RAM increased). 

Now, I'm having a trouble when I have two of 8 giga RAM to be filled. They were detected by the CPU-Z but not by the system nor the BIOS. My friend told me that my W540 has a i7-4600M processor and it doesn't support the next 16 giga more (so it can has a full 32 giga RAM). My questions are :

1. Is that true that Thinkpad W540 with i7-4600M processor only support until 16 giga of RAM ? ; or

2. Are the any possible things that caused those RAMs undetected ? 

3. Can anyone help me to solve this ?

is it possible for me to upgrade my 4600 to at least 4700MQ manually ? I mean does the module of the processor in "slot" mode, or should I change the whole motherboards ? or any alternatives ?

Yes it is viable, easy and possible to change the CPU on the W540 as it is socketed. I have a i7-4810MQ in my w541.
