High Pitch Noise from inbuilt Speaker (even with Headphones) on P72

2019-01-07, 9:09 AM

I received my new P72 and I noticed a high pitch noise from my speakers when I listen to something quiet. Then I plugged in some headphones and noticed, that even then a high pitch noise comes out of my speakers. It stops whenever the sound stops.
It seems like the inbuilt speakers are not completely decoupled and generate noise even when headphones are jacked.

The problems does not appear, when I use HMDI sound output.

Any solution on this? Is it a common problem?

I have no such issue on my P72, although the speaker sound is particularly bad due to their less than ideal placement.
Can you confirm what you are hearing is not coil whine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urfk-IkRGmE ?
Although if it was coil whine you would probably hear it also when there is no sound.

Sounds completly different.

I think it is something on the hardware. Some cables to the speakers. I hear the noise when headphones are plugged in (noise is easier to hear) and when I play quiet music on the speakers. If I play load music on the nternal speakers, the noise is drowned out by it.

I Have the same exact problem! Using headphones helps you hear it very well as the white noise still comes out of the internal speakers.

Did you find a solution?!?

No solution so far. I will contact support next week. Hopefully I get a quick replacement.

I first notice the issue right after booting when cortana is talking to set up windows. I muted her but still noticed  some noise from the speakers. It must be a hardware issue. I tried with three different windows installation and still get that problem. It seems like a condensator is unloading through the speakers. Really annoying. The noise gets loader the more you lower the volume.

Too bad. Multiple issues. Push for replacement. If within return window send back for refund or ask for replacement. Mine had issues with Keyboard, Backlight bleed, then stuck pixels (from replaced LCD panel). Two new issues when fan starts there is some kind of grinding noise. I have some background noise that plays after playing anything on the speaker it stops after few seconds. Anyway I asked for replacement and they are sending new one.

When they replace your panel, it will be backordered and will come with backlight bleed and stuck pixels. You will have one new issue.

Too bad all laptop manufacturers are like this. Backlight bleed, faulty speakers, faulty keyboards now the trend for top three laptop brands. Lenovo, Dell and HP.

Although i hate the macbook os, the build quality, screen, and quality control is legit. Wish the top brands like lenovo put more effort like apple in quality control

Comparing Hardware Specs, Apple is much more expensive.

But it is true, that they have good Quality Control in Supplier Quality and Manufactering Quality.

Created a ticket and received support by a technician. Replaced speakers with new ones.

Problem counld not be resovled as I expected.

Technician (and me) thinks that this can only be repaired with a BIOS update or mainboard replacement.

The noise, which comes through the speakers, is due to some voltage leak in the circuit.

  • When headphones plugged in, speakers make some noise.
  • When playing sound without headphones and volume is set to 1-5%, speakers make noise.

Really annoying. I am a little bit afraid of getting a refurbished mainboard replaced.
