Howw to update the BIOS?

2010-07-24, 10:22 AM

Hello,

I am new here, and a user of the excellent Lenovo W700 Notebook, and I have a question regarding my Notebook, I have never updated the BIOS of my notebook so my questions are:

How to update the BIOS, can I update it via an bootable media?

Do I have to update the BIOS to the latest released version without updating the earlier released version of the BIOS, if yes where can I get all released versions of BIOS updates?

I also should mention that I am using a 64-bit system (Windows 7)

Best Regards.

You can update your BIOS to the latest version in one go using the latest update program. Just download 7zuj18u6.exe from http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70800.html and run it in Windows 7.

You just need to download the latest.

Please be aware that Lenovo have been having major problems lately in the W series with BIOS upgrades. Be sure to check the forums for comments on the version you plan to upgrade too -- to make sure they don't do things like ignore half your ram, erase your windows license key, etc. Also, do a full backup of your hard drive data as it's not uncommon to have a bios upgrade "brick" your system board, requiring a replacement.

Ok, thank you for the suggestion it is really much appreciated, because the fact that I am new here and that I do not have enough knowledge regarding my current situation and others also makes me feel that I have much to learn here, so thank you again.

And another question regarding the BIOS Update, after I download the latest upteader, do I just have to run the file on the main OS, does it conflict with other applications?

Best regards.

Run the file under Wndows 7 and follow the instructions.

It's recommended that you exit other applications before running the update.
