In Windows 10, Microsoft made it a bit more difficult.
- Open Device Manager
- Click on the Action Menu, select Add Legacy Hardware, and click Next on the "Welcome to the Add Hardware Wizard" screen
At this point you can attach your device to your system's Com port and see if Windows can detect its settings, but usually I have to install the port manually, and then go back in Device Manager, right-click on the new port, select Properties, and then from the Port Settings tab, set the Bits, Parity, and flow control to match the device.
- On the Add Hardware screen, select Install hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced) and click Next
- Scroll down the list of "Common hardware types", select Ports (COM & LPT) and click Next
- On the next screen it should already have (Standard Port Types) and Communications ports highlighted, so just lick Next
- Click Next again to start installing the Com ports
Once completed you will have to right-click on new port in Device Manager to configure its properties..
