Lenovo Lacks W500 Submodels in Database

2015-08-04, 1:31 AM

First, I had to bother Lenovo to get the 4063-3fu to be re-added to the online database after it mysteriously vanished. It took them 2+ months to get around to that.

Now, the W500 4063-AQ2 is nowhere listed on Lenovo's site. What the heck is going on? Who know how many other submodels are affected? Check yours now, but don't use "Detect my product".  Use the search function: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/#termandconditions

Good day.

The missing MTM Search Field that was on the main support page at: support.lenovo.com has been reported.

Please see: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Feedback-on-the-new-support-site/How-to-find-specification-configuration-on-updated-support-site/td-p/2131898

In the meantime, here is the info for your 4063-AQ2:

ThinkPad W500 (4063-AQ2)

Based on 4063-33U: T9400(2.53GHz), 2GB RAM, 160GB 7200rpm HD, 15.4in 1900x1200 LCD, 512MB ATI FireGL V5700, CDRW/DVD, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 9c Li-Ion, WinXP Pro

Does this help you?

Regards.

I would very much like to use the "Detect my product" option. Where is it? I clicked the link but can't find it. I used both search boxes and still nothing. I can't get anyting out of the Lenovo site but very generic W500 information- nothing about my subtype.

Good day.

The Detect My Product feature is right in the middle-top of support.lenovo.com.

Click it to learn more about Lenovo Service Bridge.

Which machine subtype do you have?

Regards.

Thank you Sarbin, at least somebody else reported the problem.

The 4063-33U is not my model. I know most, but not all the specs. The "secure chip" is news to me- where can I read more about this and how can I find out is my W500 has one? I have been using Speccy and Belarc and Astra32 but all it does is confuse me since the specs don't match Lenovo's specs.

Hi Sarbin,

I feel blind. I have looked for Detect My Product and Lenovo Service Bridge and can see neither.  Also the LSC never once warns users not to bother with it unless they're using Win7 or later. They need to post the requirements on that page.

The OP's 4063-AQ2 is based on the 4063-33U.

In my experience with ThinkPads, there were often corporate bids on specific configurations based off of a standard model. Those special bids were then, IIRC and am not mistaken, assigned a unique 3-character identifier appended to the machine type. I presume that may be what this is. 4063-33U morphed into 4063-AQ2.

From some of your other posts, I see you're asking about the AQ2, also.

It might be useful to look up details on the 33U as they should offer much insight.

You might also try entering your machine's serial number here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/partslookup

to see if a parts list is returned.

Regards.

Deleting my cookies may work, but just in case, can you give me a direct URL/link to the Detect Product and Lenovo Service Bridge?

Also, how are users supposed to know the 33U means AQ2? What's the point in confusing things like that?

When I click the image (link) for Detect My Product, the page expands downward to describe Lenovo Service Bridge and the URL changes to: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/#termandconditions

Near the bottom of the description there are "I agree" and "No, I don't agree" buttons.

As I stated above, the morphing of the 3-character extension on the machine's MT-M number was a corporate tracking feature, again, if I'm not mistaken. Many of these systems get sold after companies retire them. When individuals purchase directly, they receive the standard models (like 33U) unless they customize while ordering. In those cases the extension is CTO (configure to order).

To clarify, I'm not a Lenovo employee. I'm a long-time customer of Lenovo and IBM before that. I'm working from personal experience attempting to assist you.

Regards.
