Re: Lenovo P50 - HDMI not working

2016-06-15, 8:50 AM

I have exactly the same issue, it worked when I first plugged it in, subsequent reboots and my monitor is now not detected and my system only shows 3 displayport adaptors and no HDMI. I will be returning this device as non-functional unless I can find a solution here. Does anyone have any ideas? Do Lenovo read these messages?

I tried all possible updates but I did not do any BIOS update. Updated Thunderbolt, Intel Management and Intel Firmware for P50, restarted and HDMI driver updated automatically. This solution worked for me.

Re: Lenovo P50 - HDMI not working - SOLVED

2016-06-21, 11:54 AM

I am running a Discreet mode setup and HDMI was not working.
Just wanted to confirm that the solution that worked is to update the Thunderbolt firmware.
I would recomend the Bios update 1.24 (1.27 current) as well since it has some fixes as well.

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-P-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-P50/downloads/DS112986

Version 16
•(New) Initial release for ThinkPad P50.
•(Fix) Fixed an issue where system might not output external monitor properly through HDMI port.

And the BIOS 1.27. System update still showed 1.26

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-P-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-P50/downloads/DS106109

  Version 1.24

[Important updates]
  Nothing.

[New functions or enhancements]
- Support New POST Logo.
- Support legacy boot on system with NVMe SSD.(Driver is needed.)
- Added support for Windows10 Device Guard feature.

[Problem fixes]
- Fixed Ethernet LAN Option ROM might not work properly with PoE Ethernet Switch.
- Added a workaround for Trackpoint does not work on pre-boot environment.
- Fixed an issue where POST logo might show twice.
- Fixed an issue where unsuitable warning message is displayed for AC adapter.
- Fixed an issue where Password prompt might not display to the external monitor
  on docking station.(Discrete GPU mode).
- Fixed an issue where Discrete GPU frequency might not reach to MAX clock.

Hope this helps

Did you install this update from a windows partition?  Dual-booted?  I don't suppose that this can be run from a wine install?

It seems to work for me too.

I updated the thunderbolt-driver and is seems to work now (knock on woood).

But You have to be connected to the HDMI-Monitor and have it running, otherwise it does not install.....

I have a P50 delivered yesterday. Here's hoping relevant fixes are factory installed in a July manufactured unit. Not home until tomorrow, so that means picking it up Monday to see.

Lenovo has released a Service TIP specifically for intermittent or complete loss of external HDMI video on P50 ThinkPad systems that includes links to firmware to download and instructions for installing it.

The Service TIP can be found here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/SF16-T0051

Thank you,

Re: Lenovo P50 - HDMI not working

2016-09-01, 10:48 AM

I have window 10 in my P50 and the lattes BIOS 1.30. HDMI worked very well until today.

When i booted the external monitor was not recognized. (Tested it and cable both ok)

So i looked around and found this fix.

Thunderbolt Software running shows me an empty list for attached devices. Below version.

Please help. I work with both monitors this impacts a lot in my work performance.
