Lenovo P50 M.2 SSD switching

2021-04-05, 18:06 PM

Hey people of this forum.

I have recently had a few problems with viruses, malware, rootkits/bootkits, and so on.

I have taken my Lenovo P50 laptop to the computer store Micro Center in order to perform a hardware diagnostic.

The results came back and everything passed except for my hard drive (A M.2 NVMe 500 gb SSD), and that it needed to be replaced.

I have bought a new one (the recommended samsung 970 evo), and Left the store with my laptop and the new drive.

I'm doing some research on where to open the laptop, where to put the drive, closing, booting, flashing, etc, when I see that all the videos that I'm watching say that I need a specific "tray" per say for the M.2.

I don't have a spare one, nor do I have time to order a new one.

So, I am on this forum to ask whether or not I can take out the used SSD, and use the already placed and used M.2 tray for my New SSD. (again, I'm replacing, not adding).

Any response would be immensely helpful.

Thanks!

Hello Dani :D,

Greetings

If the same part replacement, I don't see any problem reusing the tray.

I tried to check the "tray" part alone from the parts look up website but can't find one. It could be a part of an entire assembly.

You may also refer to the hardware maintenance manual for additional info, as well as video tutorials.

Hope this helps

Regards,

Hello,

Yes, you can re-use the tray.  Just be sure to be careful when removing and re-inserting it into the P50, as they can be a little fragile.
