Lenovo P50 and Dock HDMI sound cutting problem

2019-02-26, 12:59 PM

Hello!

I have problem with sound cutting. Approximately once in minute sound stutters and it's very annoying if you are watching movie or listening music. I have plug my Lenovo P50 in "ThinkPad 230W Workstation Dock" and dock is pluged in 4K monitor (BenQ PD3200U) with DP-cable and another HDMI cable goes to amplifier (Pioneer VSX-923). There is no stuttering problem with aux or bluethoot but I can't output 5.1 sound trought these so HDMI is only way do this. Also if I move the HDMI cable directly in laptop HDMI port while laptop is in the dock there is no sound problem.

I have latest drivers for Quadro M2000 and for the dock. (All other drivers also is updated.)

I think problem is in the dock drivers? but i am not expert...

Sorry for bad english.

Hi,
I have got the exact same problem - P50 and workstation dock, but connected to a Gefen HDMI to Composite converter. Sound cuts out for half a second or so at random times, maybe once per minute or so.

My dock is running the latest firmware.

Did you find a way to solve the problem? Or can someone else assist on this?

Hi, how do you take the audio signal out from the laptop and where do you connect it to?

Do you get similar drops from the docks audio port?

Hi,
In my case I connect the HDMI output on the Workstation Dock to a Gefen HDMI to Composite converter (which also does S-Video). It is an older version of this unit: https://gefen.com/product/hdmi-to-composite-s-video-scaler/ but similar.
I have just tested the analog output jack on the dock, and no, I don't get any dropouts in sound.
I actually just connected the HDMI from the dock to my TV now - and no sound droupouts.

The only thing other thing I can think about is that the Gefen box, like all other professional boxes are not HDCP-capable. Maybe this lack of support causes some sort of re-negotiation/re-handshake of the HDMI audio part?

I would try one thing in both you situations.

While the workstation dock has a HDMI connector, it has two display-port outputs. If instead of taking the HDMI signal for audio purposes, what if you use the second display-port with a DP-HDMI cable? Does it affect the sound cutting?
