Re:Lenovo System Update Service (32 bit)

2021-02-10, 21:51 PM

I noticed my P53 fan has been running on mid/high nonstop for hours, checking Task Manager shows Lenovo System Update Service running 14-20% CPU constantly. Right-clicking it and selecting "Open file location" brings me to C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\System Update and highlights SUService.exe, which shows file version 5.7.0.113:

I'm glad there's a planned fix for this later this week or next, and I hope it'll be there. I see no other options but to manually stop the service each time it does this, or remove it from my system.

I really would like to know what it's doing in the background, considering I've already got Lenovo Vantage System Updates installed. I consider the one spiking my CPU to be a security risk, as for all I know it's uploading files and images to Lenovo without my permission.

Hi there, This apparently fixs the problem. Thanks. But I am wandering why you are releasing a new version through a forum? Isn't there proper channels and processes for releases in Lenovo? How can it be considered an official release? What if someone malicious come here and releases code to people just like that??

I can't tell if these are serious questions or not.  First thing you could check is that URL is coming from https://download.lenovo.com, next thing you could check is Lenovo signature on the file.  Anyway, this new version has since been linked on the support website here:  https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds012808-lenovo-system-update-for-windows-10-7-32-bit-64-bit-desktop-notebook-workstation

0 person found this solution to be helpful.

This helped me too

Agree with this user.

A system monitoring service should NOT stay on all the time.  Such system should stay idle most of the time and, once in a while, check whether the computer system needs updates.

I am having the same problem and I will UPROOT this darn Lenovo update service.

When verifying whether this is compatible it says my Y540 (Legion Y540-15IRH Laptop (Lenovo) - Type 81SX) is not compatible with this update version. Is this accurate?

Lenovo System Update is not (and has never been) intended for your Y540, but if you installed the previous version and have this problem where SuService.exe is constantly using CPU, then this new version will fix that problem

This is great and thanks. But, as of just right now, one client I tested, running 5.07.110.0, pointed to and installed the 5.07.113.0 update.

Can whatever-the-clients-are-pointing-to-for-updates be updated with the non-problem version?

Re:Lenovo System Update Service (32 bit)

In response to the question about running Lenovo Vantage vs the "System Update" tool provided by Lenovo. I recently stopped using Lenovo Vantage to try the System Update utility. They seem to to the same thing.

I agree with the other posts and I'll go further. @lenovo "Lenovo System Update Service (32 bit)" has to be horribly written. There should be no regularly or constantly running service that takes up 15%-20% of SR.  It's a simple server access and files check. To take up this much SR on a P73 is silly. Please rewrite it. Have an actual engineer write recode it, not an intern. Thank you. Loyal Lenovo customer.

To others, I'd suggest killing this service until Lenovo issues an update and notification and instead run one Lenovo Vantage or System Update. they take less than a minute to run.
