I've applied this update and doesn't seem that it's working. I'm still getting fan noise when I close the lid or basic web browsing. Can't say that I'm seeing anything weird in the task manager.

what's funny is that the moment I open my lid the fan spinning stops only to restart again once I do any browsing.

I am piling on to the comments other users stated and summarizing what Lenovo must do rather than simply post a fix to a message board.

 

My experience, a C940 with i7-1065G7 CPU @ 1.30GHz 1.50 GHz, was as others experienced - laptop fan needlessly running due to the Lenovo System Update Service (32 bit) endlessly consuming 30%+ of my CPU.  I had to manually exit the hidden system utility via taskbar each time I turned on my laptop.

 

On February 12, 2021, I manually executed the Lenovo Vantage Update check to see if there was any update I should be applying.  No updates were pushed to me.

 

However, finding this message thread later in the day, I learned there was a fix 5.07.117.0 posted February 10, 2021.  This was a full two (2) days earlier.

 

So:

1. If there was a fix available, why was it not showing up when I took the time to manually run Lenovo Vantage Update?

2. More importantly, why was the fix not automatically pushed out by Lenovo to us?

 

My system is set up to actively check for updates.  Lenovo needs to PROACTIVELY push fixes and updates to us.  I should not have to go hunting for a posted fix.

 

If Lenovo wants users who sing the praises of Lenovo, then Lenovo must take greater accountability and ownership for keeping the operating system current.  It is not sufficient to simply post a fix and hope users will find the correct thread to resolve a problem.

Thanks, the patch has resolved the issue on my machines.

 

Good response from Lenovo, I think. This issue went from a post on the community forums on Feb 6th to a resolution in less than 6 days.

Not bad for free support.

I've been having the same issue for a week or more. I thought my fan was broken. This is really annoying.

Yoga C940 owner here, I went into Vantage settings and changed the battery settings to optimizer and it took care of this issue but I have to say that it slowed everything down.  I went back in and have selected "Intelligent cooling" and that seems to have done the trick.  Back to normal speeds and can't say I've heard the fan too much but been working outside.
