I installed the firmware update without any problem. But the touchpad and trackpoint and the buttons still do not work. So disappointed with Lenovo :-(

@GrantTang, can you try to uninstall and re-install Elan Ultranav driver? The newly released firmware update is just for the touchpad, hope that can recover touchpad function at least

Re: Lenovo Think Pad P52 updated BIOS with error PS/2 Mouse Not Detected

I was able to regain both my TrackPAD and TrackPOINT functionality by performing the following steps:

1. Read the firmware instructions for the TouchPad firmware carefully. e.g. for the UltraNav firmware, every one of the cautions appears to be important:
- Please install Elan UltraNav driver. [<- I already had this installed.]
- Please make sure your computer is plugged in to AC power.
- !!!Please do not touch TrackPOINT/TrackPAD while firmware is reflashing.!!!
- Please do not Shutdown, Restart, Hibernate, or Sleep the computer while firmware is reflashing.
- Please do not close the lid while firmware is reflashing.

2. Downloaded and installed the: "Elan TouchPad Firmware for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit) - Thinkpad P52 02" - 26 Feb 2019

At this juncture, my TrackPAD worked again.

3. Rebooted

4. As I had previously installed the TrackPOINT FW update a couple months ago which broke/disabled both the TrackPOINT and TrackPAD, I still had the TrackPOINT FW updater in c:\drivers\win\Elantech_TrackPOINTFW.

So I navigated to the above folder and executed FWUpdate.exe.
Once it began, I also followed the cautions above not to touch the TrackPOINT or TrackPAD during the update.

[The TrackPOINT update takes a lot longer, for less data, so just leave it be.]

At this juncture, or perhaps after a reboot(?), both my TrackPOINT and TouchPAD worked again.

Re: Lenovo Think Pad P52 updated BIOS with error PS/2 Mouse Not Detected

@tenaji, I tried to uninstall "ELAN Input Device For WDF" under "Mice and other pointing devices" in Device manager. And after reboot it is automatically reinstalled. But it does not help. I still don't have my touchpad and trackpoint.

I notice when the laptop reboot I still have the embrassing loud beep and after that a black screen background shows one line "(A7) Me FW Downgrade - Request MeSpiLock Failed".

Any help?

@GrantTang, I see, seems your machine has a different case and possibly a hardware problem. You can raise another ticket about MEFW issue so that appropriate engineering team can respond and give some recovery tips. Or another option is to let your laptop check by service support center.

how could that happen? It worked OK before I installed that firmware update. Could you give me more detail how can I get help. I called Lenovo support, they transfer me to Microsoft support. Several Indian technician remote comtroled my laptop but still cannot get it work. I spent $3000 on this laptop and use it just a couple of months. I am so disappointed.

What I learned from buying a $3,000 Lenovo laptop is not to ever do any software updates. They release broken updates that aren't fully tested and they brick people's laptops. Imagine for a month, I couldn't use trackpoint or touchpad. The new software update fixes the touchpad only, but trackpoint is still broken.

They should learn from other companies how to release well tested updates. The thing that bothered me the most is that they left this update for about 2 months and they knew it was bricking people's touchpad from this thread.

$3,000 is a very expensive mistake

Nope, it still does not work with the newest BIOS update. I could not be more disappointed about the negligence of Lenovo on this issue. Totally unacceptable to keep distributing the update for months after acknowledging the problems and take months to fix the problems without any proper communication or apology.
